The first two editions of MGW were held at The Taj Lands End, Bandra, with the aim being to invite a suburban audience to get a taste for the South Mumbai gallery scene. The Weekends alternated by year between an Exhibition format and a Lecture format.

For Mumbai Gallery Weekend 2015, the focus was brought back to South Mumbai, more specifically the art district of Colaba, for the four-day. The seven host galleries mounted exhibitions which included work by some of the leading names artists associated with the contemporary art scene in South Asia including Anita Dube, Anant Joshi, Samanta Batra Mehta, Hetain Patel, C.K. Rajan, Sharmila Samant and T. Venkanna. Through the weekend experts led groups through these exhibitions.

The public conversations and films screenings scheduled in partnership with the NGMA were curated in order to reach out both to specialised and general audiences. Special art exhibits were arranged in non-traditional art spaces in order to expose the city to the most interesting and exciting art practices from the region.

For VIP invitees, special walkthroughs took place of art collections that are otherwise off limits to the public.
